FAQs
1. What is RK Health’s Practical Training for New Family Caregivers?
RK Health provides personalized training sessions designed to equip family caregivers with the skills they need to care for their loved ones at home. Our training focuses on teaching caregivers how to do ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) and Personal Care for their loved one- areas such as mobility assistance, hygiene care, and behavior management. RK Health ensures that the Family Caregiver is equipped to support the patient in the ways needed so they can live without risk and with dignity.
2. How is the training delivered?
We offer flexible training options, including in-home sessions (within the GTA) where a professional visits the caregivers home and telehealth sessions (Canada & US wide) that allow caregivers to receive training remotely.
3. Who conducts the training sessions?
Our training sessions are conducted by experienced healthcare professionals, including nurses (RN/RPN), PSWs, and occupational therapists, who have experience across patient types and are specialized in caregiver education.
4. How is the training delivered?
Depending on their needs, they will learn how to do the activities of daily living (ADLs) and personal care techniques for their loved one- think, how to safely move and transfer their loved one, assist with bathing and grooming, and manage any challenging behaviors that may arise. We keep training simple and focused on these basic ADLs.
5. How long does the training take?
The length of training varies based on caregiver specific needs, but most sessions last between 1-2 hours. We can schedule multiple sessions if more support is needed or if caregivers only like to do 1 hour at a time.
6. Is this training only for new caregivers?
While our program is designed to support new family caregivers, any caregiver who feels they need additional skills or confidence can benefit from our training.
7. How much does the training cost?
Pricing is currently $60-$80/hour (in complex situations this increases to $90-100/hour). The number of hours varies on complexity of the situation but on average 1-2 hours is all caregivers need, this can be delivered together or over 1 hour sessions. We recommend calling and doing an intake to get an accurate idea of how many hours of training will be needed.
